Major General Hazem Attallah opens a unified service center for women survivors of domestic violence in Palestine

Ramallah - General Directorate of Police - Major General Hazem Attallah, Director General of the Palestinian Police, and Ms. Belerta Aliko, Deputy Regional Director of the United Nations Commission for Women in the Arab States, opened today the unified service center for women and children survivors of family violence in Al-Bireh To protect women and children who have been subjected to violence.

A statement issued by the Department of Public Relations and Information in police said that this center is considered the first unified service center of its kind in Palestine, that comes as a result of the efforts made by the Palestinian government institutions in the past years to strengthen the protection of women survivors of domestic violence and to improve the services provided to the Palestinian society in general. The Department of Family Protection and Events in the Palestinian Police has striven to establish a unified service center to provide a coordinated response among service providers to provide victims with protection and accountability by providing integrated health, psychological and legal services according to a multisectoral approach to ensure services that comply with uniform standards and link service providers Sectors.

Major General Hazem Attallah said that this model contributes to the efforts of the Palestinian Police to develop the process of providing services and professional performance by providing integrated services in a single site that guarantees the quality, privacy and confidentiality of the case,The center will also facilitate access to women and children who are victims of domestic violence, who will receive all services in an appropriate and protective environment. Atallah emphasized the police's belief in the importance of more women reaching their services and the commitment of the police to provide services that respond to the needs of different sections of society.

For his part, Attorney-General Dr. Ahmed Barak expressed his support for this initiative, confirming his hope that this center will facilitate women's access to justice institutions for reporting and protection, which will enhance trust and increase the credibility of the judicial system in Palestine.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed Abu Humaid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development, said that this center comes to be a complex of extension, health, policing and legal services to reach real protection for women and children and to raise the level of coordination and cooperation among service providers according to a multisectoral methodology.And that this center is a successful model through which we can provide protection for women and children as well as monitoring cases and analysis and continuous consultation among partners to ensure the level of protection required.

At the end of the ceremony, Mrs. Belerta Aliko confirmed on the commitment of the United Nations Women's Commission and its partners to reduce violence against women and children and to work diligently to increase the reporting and prosecution of the accused in cases of violence. She also talked about the current plans of the UN Women's Committee in Multiple sites in Palestine adding that the success of the unified service centers depends on the commitment of institutions from all sectors concerned by ensuring adequate human, financial and material resources
It is worth mentioning that the United Nations Women's Fund and the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP), within their joint program, are equal in support of the Palestinian police in rehabilitating and equipping the building and turning it into a unified service center for use by the Family Protection and Events Department in Ramallah
